What is KBA?

Knowledge Base Authentication (KBA) Overview

KBA is an IRS-compliant method used to verify your identity when signing an 8879 electronically. You must correctly answer all KBA questions.

How does Liscio use KBA?

  • You will be asked four questions.
  • If you miss one question, you'll receive two more questions to answer correctly.
  • You have four total attempts to pass the KBA.
  • If all attempts are unsuccessful, the agreement will be canceled, and an automatic comment will notify the Task Owner of the failure.
  • How does KBA work?

Liscio partners with Adobe and uses LexisNexis, a leading KBA provider. The questions are randomly generated from your credit history and may involve past purchases, rentals, and addresses.

    Can I fail KBA?

Yes, though it is rare. Reasons for failure include:
    1. Insufficient credit history to generate questions
    2. Being a new adult or new citizen
    3. Extensive time spent outside the U.S.
    4. Receiving questions about another person
    5. Incorrectly answering questions
    6. Choosing an almost correct answer instead of "None of the Above"
    7. Not knowing the answers

What should I do if I fail KBA?

Contact the individual who sent you the eDoc task by commenting on the task itself. They will guide you on the next steps.

How can I improve my chances of passing KBA?

When starting the KBA, you can optionally provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number. This helps generate more accurate questions related to your information and significantly reduces the chances of failure.
