Tax Return Delivery: Printing Returns

Liscio's Tax Return Delivery automates breaking down tax return PDFs into actionable parts, guiding clients through reviewing, signing, and paying each part, saving time for tax professionals.

Supported Documents

1040 Tax Returns for Federal and all States (not locality or state-only filings).
  1. Tax Return PDF should contain the Federal & State 1040 forms, Federal 8879 form and estimated payment vouchers/payment vouchers (when applicable).
    1. For Tax Returns containing the States listed below, the State 8879 form must be included:
      1. Alabama
      2. Arizona
      3. Arkansas
      4. California
      5. Colorado
      6. Georgia
      7. Indiana
      8. Louisiana
      9. Massachusetts
      10. New York
  2. Ensure the 8879 forms are set to preprint the date for signature fields.
  3. Tax Return PDF should be printed using the native function within your tax software. Returns printed using a separate PDF print driver will not process.
  4. Ensure the PDF is not password protected.
  5. Ensure any watermarks have been disabled on the PDF.
  6. On the Federal 1040, page 2 has an email address box for the taxpayer's email. Please ensure your print settings include displaying the taxpayer's email on this form.
  7. Ensure that the Federal and State(s) returns are uploaded as one PDF and not multiple PDFs.

Configure the tax software's print options for a successful upload into Liscio.

UltraTax Setup Instructions

Ensure that federal and state forms are printing together into one document. If separate, the files will fail in processing. State and Federal files can’t be uploaded separately - the State will fail and the Federal will exist without the State return.
  1. Click Utilities
  2. Click Setup and Office Configurations
  3. Click Print Options
  4. Uncheck Print Separate Federal and State Returns
  5. Also make sure Watermarks are off while on this page
Ensure that “Combine Transmittal Letter and Filing Instructions in letter format” is selected, otherwise the federal and state forms won’t have accurate pages. If separate, the Federal return will likely have state pages and vice versa.

Drake Setup Instructions

  1. Accessing the Setup Menu
    1. Open your tax software application.
    2. Navigate to the Setup menu.
    3. Select Printing from the options.
    4. Choose Device Setup to configure your printer settings.
  2. Configuring Printer Settings
    1. Print Settings:
      1. This section is for setting up your physical printer.
      2. Ensure you select the correct printer (e.g., PDF printer) if you plan to print tax returns digitally.
    2. Shading Options:
      1. Be mindful of shading options as they might affect the print quality.
      2. Avoid making unnecessary changes to shading settings to maintain default print standards.
    3. Margin Adjustments:
      1. Do not adjust the margins unless absolutely necessary, as default settings are optimized for standard prints.
  3. Setting Up Print Collations
    1. Accessing Sets:
      1. Within the printing setup, navigate to the Sets option.
      2. This is crucial for defining which forms print with which copy of the return.
    2. Understanding Sets/Collations:
      1. Different tax software may have different terms (e.g., UltraTax uses "collations", CCH uses "return copy").
      2. These sets define the intended recipient or use case for each printed copy (e.g., client copy, office copy).
  4. Additional Recommendations
    1. Screenshots and Documentation:
      1. If possible, take screenshots of the default setup states after installation for reference.
      2. Use these screenshots to guide clients through the setup process.
    2. Mockups for External Sharing:
      1. If sharing setup instructions externally, consider creating mockups of the screens to avoid copyright issues.
      2. Use mockup images to illustrate steps without displaying the actual software interface.
  5. Final Steps
    1. Ensure all settings are configured correctly before proceeding to print any tax returns.
    2. Regularly check for any updates or changes in the printing setup to keep the process smooth and error-free.
