File Access Breakdown

Liscio gives you control over who can view each file. Here’s how file access works for firm users and clients.

Files in To Dos & Notes:

  • Files added to To Dos or Notes are for internal use only.

  • Clients cannot see these files, even if they’re linked to a Contact or Account.

  • Linking a Contact or Account just helps your team stay organized.

Firm Only (Internal) Files:

  • These files show a lock icon next to the file name.

  • Only firm users can view them—even if they’re linked to clients.

  • To share with a client, you must explicitly share the file.

  • Files added through To Dos or Notes are marked Firm Only by default.

Sharing Files with Clients:

  • To share files, use the Liscio Vault or the Share File option on the Files page.

  • When you share a Firm Only file, it automatically removes the internal status so the client can see it.

File Visibility for Recipients:

  • Clients can see any files shared with them—unless they’re marked Firm Only.

  • If a client is listed as a recipient, they’ll have access to that file.

Account Owners:

  • Account Owners can see all non-Firm Only files tied to their Account.

  • They do not need to be direct recipients to view those files.

Files in Message Threads:

  • If a client is included in a message thread, they can view any files attached to it.

  • These files will also appear in their Files page.

  • If the Account is associated with the message, the Account Owner can view the file—
but not the message itself unless they were added as a recipient.
