Customizable Smart Tax Organizers allow firms to collect tax information digitally using personalized, client-specific organizers. These organizers adapt based on prior-year tax data and document history, replacing static PDFs and reducing manual follow-up during tax season. This ensures:

  • Fewer unnecessary questions

  • Clear guidance on what documents are needed

  • Faster and more accurate completion

How to Customize Organizers

  1. Select the Smart Tax page

  2. Go to Organizer Templates to view existing templates, create new ones, or edit templates you already have.

  3. Start with a Preloaded Organizer

    1. Choose the organizer from your preferred tax software. The questionnaire will be preloaded for you.

  4. Click Clone to create a copy you can customize.
    Tip: Use a title your clients will easily understand.

  5. Review the Template Structure

    • Collapse sections to get a full overview of the template.

    • Expand sections to review and fine-tune individual questions.

  6. For each section or question, you can:

    • Edit the question text, question type, or conditional logic

    • Hide items that shouldn’t appear for clients

    • Delete items you don’t need

    Click the checkmark to save each change.

    Note: Hidden questions or sections are labeled so you know they won’t appear in client organizers.

  7. Hover over the ellipsis (⋯) to drag and reorder questions or entire sections.

  8. The personalized Document Request List ensures clients know exactly what documents to upload.

  9. State-specific sections are preloaded and can be fully customized.

  10. To add a question within a section, click + Add Item, then choose:

    • Short Answer

    • Yes/No with optional conditionals

    • File Upload

  11. Scroll to the bottom and click + Add Section to build custom sections for:

    • Additional services

    • Quarterly payments

    • Other firm-specific needs

  12. Save your changes

  13. Publish the template so it’s available when importing organizers.

  14. When attaching organizer documents to a client, select the appropriate custom organizer template.

  15. After organizers are generated, drafts will appear under Organizer Requests
